The Dangers of Guns

If guns must be present, parents should use trigger locks, gun safes, or a smart gun. Sadly, kids as young as 3 can (and do) lethally fire a gun.

Dr. Greene’s take on children and guns…

More than 8 million children in the United States live in homes with at least one unlocked gun, according to the April 2000 issue of the American Journal of Public Health. Over 2.5 million of these children live where firearms are stored unlocked and loaded, or unlocked and unloaded but with ammunition kept nearby. More than 1/3 of households with children have at least one firearm.

I’d love to see guns out of these homes, but if they must be present, the least parents should do is use trigger locks, gun safes, or a smart gun. Many parents don’t understand that kids as young as 3 can (and do) lethally fire a gun.
