Snoring and Grades

Did you just get your child’s report card? Were his grades lower than you’d like? Does your child snore? If so, one of the best things you can do to help him succeed in school or thrive in preschool might be to address the snoring! A study of over 1000 elementary students in Germany has found that kids who snore are 3 to 4 times more likely than their peers to get poor grades. Other researchers have documented both poorer learning and poorer behavior in snorers. The problem seems to be caused by the poor quality sleep, not directly by the faster pulse or the lower level of oxygen in the blood during snoring. Any child who snores deserves to be evaluated by a physician to check for sleep apnea, a problem associated with snoring. Sleep apnea can cause poor sleep and other health
problems.
