Creamy Breakfast Oatmeal with Dates Recipe

You will need a digital rice cooker with the porridge cycle for this dish. Soak the steel cut oats overnight in room temperature water, covered, and drain before making the porridge; it will be more tender.

  1. 2/3 cup steel-cut oats
    1 3/4 cups milk with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract added, or vanilla soy milk
    1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    Pinch of fine sea salt
    2 tablespoons maple syrup
    1/4 cup chopped pitted dates


    1. Combine the oats, vanilla milk, cinnamon, salt, and maple syrup in the rice bowl of the rice cooker. Gently stir to combine.
    2. Sprinkle with the dates.
    3. Close the cover, program for the porridge cycle, and cook until thick.
    4. Immediately spoon into bowls to serve.
