Antibiotic-resistant pneumococcal infections have become a major health problem. In February 2000 the FDA approved Prevnar, the exciting new vaccine that can prevent pneumococcal infections - the leading cause of serious meningitis and pneumonia. The pneumococcusis also the number one cause of ear infections and sinus infections, something that affects most young children.
I expect this vaccine to prove to be a major advance in children' s health. The vaccine is now recommended for all children under 2 years old, the ages when these infections are most common. It is also recommended for older children who might be prone to these infections. I'd recommend asking your doctor whether the vaccine is appropriate for your family if you have any child under age 5.
What a wonderful experience. It does sound like heaven ... on day 14 :)...
I am so tickled by everyone's comments to my posts this week. Thank you all...
