Newborn Test For Cerebral Palsy

After a traumatic birth that involves oxygen deprivation, some children go on to develop cerebral palsy, while others show no ill effects. For years, parents were simply told they must wait for months to see what the outcome would be as the child developed. The August 1999 New England Journal of Medicine describes a remarkably accurate urine test that can uncover the answer in the first six hours of life! This exciting development will not only end parent's agonizing waits, but will also allow the affected babies to receive revolutionary new treatments (such as reducing the body temperature) to prevent cerebral palsy from developing.
