Dr. Ruth Ann Crystal is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Palo Alto, California. She received her bachelor’s degree with honors from UC Berkeley and her MD with honors from Stanford University School of Medicine, where she has been on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty for 16 years. Dr. Crystal is also the executive producer of a documentary film, "Catch the Baby" which focuses on the history of childbirth, medical education and the interaction between young doctors and their patients in 1950s Chicago. She was the originating author and editor for Women’s Health topics on Medpedia.com and is a founding expert on HealthTap.com.
More recently, Dr. Crystal has become interested in human centered design in healthcare. She is a Physician Advisor at PrescribeDesign.com, a network of healthcare natives and design professionals collaborating to re-imagine medical products and services. Dr. Crystal works with the Contraceptives UX group to improve UX (user experience) in contraceptives use, access and innovation. In addition, Dr. Crystal has been a clinical instructor at the d.school (Design School) at Stanford and has helped teach students about human centered design to improve patient experience and safety in Labor and Delivery and the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery.

Previously a solo practitioner for more than 10 years, Dr. Crystal transitioned to becoming an OB Hospitalist physician in 2015. She enjoys taking care of women and babies during both normal childbirth and complicated deliveries. In her free time, Dr. Crystal enjoys travelling with her husband and two teenage daughters.
