Q

What is "infant potty training'?

drgreene

Infant Potty Training, or Elimination Communication, or the Diaper Free Movement, is a an increasingly popular potty training alternative. Here, parents learn to recognize clues that their baby is about to “go” and provide them with a receptacle just in time.

Several readers of Raising Baby Green have reported that they started doing this when they introduced solid foods and greatly reduced the number of diapers used—and got their kids out of diapers entirely not long after they started walking.

This takes a lot of work, but it can be good for the environment and for the pocketbook.

Infant Potty Training

We used infant potty training with our third child and much preferred it to traditional delayed toilet training. We finished sooner and needed fewer diapers. And now 30 years later, our grandchild is using ipt too. Very glad you have included this topic on your site.

I strongly support EC to anyone! It may seem useless or funny at first to put an infant on the potty.. what's the point, right? They're not going to learn anything from this. But the feeling you get from your child eliminating into the potty is wonderful. You feel like you're really listening to their body. I felt very proud of my child and still do! I know of 20 month olds eliminating into their diaper and causing a huge mess and my 10 month old does it neatly into the potty :) Very proud!

I agree!

I could not agree more and love hearing stories like this from other parents. We trained both our girls early and I have met very few parents who do this. So worth it and you said it perfectly. It is a proud feeling when your 10 month old goes in the potty!
