Every Kitchen Needs a Good, Dishwasher Safe, Cutting Board

I remember having a cutting board that slid out from under the kitchen counter. We cut fruits and veggies on it, but knew not to cut meat on it -- thankfully. When we were done, we'd wipe it off and slide it back under the counter where the now-moist wood slowly dried ... or not ... until the next meal. Occasionally we would take the board outside and set it in the sun for a few hours to "sanitize" it. I now cringe just thinking about those days.

Baby/Toddler Cups

Wow these have improved! My son is now 12 months old and when I started weaning him at 5/6 months I started with a Dr Brown 10oz training cup. It was brilliant; it has a really soft spout that means the baby barely has to put any pressure on to get fluid out. It makes it easy and my little one took to it immediately. It is spill proof as well, although my little one managed to chuck water everywhere by flinging the cup on the floor.

Breast Milk and Baby Food Storage Trays

When I was breast feeding, I couldn't find "the" breast milk storage solution. I used little plastic bottles (oh, I shudder to think what was in those bottles, but it was the best we had 14 years ago) then thawed them as needed. I usually had just the wrong amount -- either too much (and we all hate wasting breast milk) or too little (can't let baby go hungry!). It wasn't until years later that I discovered "So Easy" covered freezer trays by Fresh Baby. They allow you to freeze one-ounce ice cubed size portions of breast milk.

Reynolds Wrap 100% Recycled Aluminum Foil

We need to celebrate! Our old friends Reynolds Wrap have created an aluminum foil created of 100% recycled aluminum (pre- and post-consumer content). Even the cardboard tube is made of recycled paper.

So many of us have gotten in the habit of recycling, but it's so important that we buy products made from all of that recycled material! Check out their site to find a coupon and more tips for living green from yours truly.

Hotstop Anti-Scald Tub Spout

As Dr. Greene mentioned in his post on fire safety, an anti-scald faucet can prevent a painful experience if your little one manages to turn on the hot water and you’re not around. Ouch!

Plantronics Digital Wireless Office Headset

Ok, now I’m talking directly to all the work-at-home parents out there. You need this Pick!

These headsets are absolutely essential when you’re running a business, running a household and running around. We have a home office and cannot function without this piece of equipment.

The first reason you need to invest in one is to protect your neck. When we work at home, all of the interaction we have with the outside world is by computer or phone, and if they’re not set up properly, you’re going to have trouble with your back and neck, guaranteed.

Eye-Fi Explore Wireless

It is rare that I get this excited about tech stuff, but this is THE COOLEST GEEK gear -- EVER! Can you tell I love my new Eye-Fi card? Dr. Greene gave me an Eye-Fi for my birthday (and thanks to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday -- it was!). When I plugged it into my computer the first time I got a notice that there might be a problem with this version and they would like to mail me a new one. All I needed to do was fill out the form and they would send me one. When it came, I was to return the original one in the postage paid envelope. Score one for Eye-Fi -- great customer service!

The new one just arrived and I plugged it into my USB slot. It walked me through the set up and I was ready to test it. Score two for Eye-Fi -- it was quick and easy.

But what does it do, you ask??? This is the most amazing part ...

Magnetic Vent Covers

Do you really need to heat (or cool) your guest bathroom? What about your laundry room? It may be nice when you're actually in those rarely used rooms to have them at a comfortable temperature, but is it worth it to heat (or cool) them 24/7?

I just found a solution to save energy and money -- Magnetic Vent Covers! The covers are large magnetic sheets that cling to the grate. They are easy to put on and take off, so if you're going to be using a room you can still enjoy temperature comfort, but when you're not using them, the covers cut down on your heating and cool bills.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Sandwich-Making Set

I am always amazed about how much my nephews (and all the other kids I’ve known) love to play with food! Ashton and Jamison will bring little play hamburgers to the adults as we talk in the kitchen, or they’ll bake little play cookies on the coffee table.

Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle

I grew up with cast-iron cookware. When I became and adult, I found more expensive cookware and thought it must be better. When my grandmother died I inherited "Old Smokie" -- the family heirloom cast-iron skillet and my eyes were opened to the wonders of cast-iron cooking, but first a word about "Old Smokie" ...

Reusable Shopping Tote Bags

Join me in my mission to save the planet one bag at a time!

I’m dedicated to not using new plastic bags because they cannot be recycled in most recycling bins, and if just one gets into a batch of recycling plastics, they may have to throw out the whole bin!

I have at least one reusable shopping tote with me at all times. I like the ones that clip to my purse so they’re always convenient. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I even color coordinate my reusable totes with my purse color and what I’m wearing.

Jack LaLannes Power Juicer

The Power Juicer was one of the first juicers on the market, and it bears the endorsement of the ultimate fitness guru, Jack LaLanne.

This is one of my favorite kitchen tools, a commercial-quality work horse that I can’t live without. You can add whole veggies and fruits without having to chop, plus a large pulp collector if you want to create nutrient-rich sauces, breads and soups from the pulp that’s left after juicing.

The instruction booklet comes with tons of recipes – great ideas for the fruits and veggies that are a little too ripe to enjoy raw.
