San Mateo, CA (March 5, 1999) -- Dr. Greene's Housecalls, located at www.DrGreene.com, has been deemed "Best of the Best" in the Resources for New Parents category by Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine. The award was given based on content, presentation and originality. This pediatric website offers a wealth of information for parents and physicians on important childhood diseases and conditions from the commonplace to the very rare, as well as developmental and stigma-related issues such as bed-wetting and lice.
Dr. Greene's website got its start when some parents of children he treats employed at Silicon Graphics were so impressed with his communication skills as a pediatrician that they encouraged him to start his own website. These parents not only encouraged him; they got their company to provide a grant of $150,000 that included hardware, software, training and support. The site, which launched in January, 1996, now receives over 850,000 hits per month and is linked to sites from as far as Russia and Peru.
Current healthcare trends have forced physicians to make patient visits briefer, less frequent and as a result, less personal. The need for a reliable outside resource such as Dr. Greene's Housecalls has led to increased interaction between physicians and consumers online.
"This ranking is quite a feat considering the millions of dollars and human resources that other major websites have at their disposal," says Dr. Greene.
Dr. Greene is pleased that although he hasn't advertised the site, parents and healthcare professionals all over the world have found it, bookmarked it, and told others about it because the information is credible. "This site continues to grow because, in short, we communicate to parents," says Dr. Greene. "Our website is definitely a labor of love."
