A Little Girl, With a Big Vision!

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to Cassidy Megan, age 10. We first met Cassidy and her mom Angela on a DrGreene.com chat several years ago, before Cassidy was officially diagnosed with Epilepsy. It’s been a delight for us to “watch” this amazing little girl (and her equally amazing family) come to terms with a significant condition in such a powerful way.

Here at DrGreene.com, we are joining Cassidy on her campaign to help people understand Epilepsy. Over the next week we’ll be posting a lot about it. Each day the story will unfold a little more -- there will be lots of interesting photos, some great videos, and on March 26th, DrGreene.com will be sprouting Purple, in honor of Cassidy’s vision for Purple Day.

We’d like to ask you to join us this next week by wearing purple, taking a photo, and sharing it with us. We’ll be posting “purple sightings” as the photos roll in, so there’s no need to wait.

But enough from me, here’s Cassidy --

How It All Started

Hi, my name is Cassidy and I am 10 yrs old. I am also the founder of Purple Day. Purple Day is a day that people wear purple to support people with Epilepsy and let them know that they aren’t alone. Purple day is also a day that kids know they aren’t alone.

When I first found out I had epilepsy I thought I was the only one and I didn’t want to talk about it or let others talk about it.

In grade 2 the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia came to my classroom and did a story about epilepsy. My friends starting asking them if they knew anyone with epilepsy and I told them I had it. Then I started talking about epilepsy.

Last year I wanted to have a special day so that other kids would know not to be afraid of epilepsy. I also wanted a day so that people could learn about the different types of epilepsy. So I asked my Mom to help me. I told her I wanted to get us, all my friends, and everyone at my school to wear purple on March 26th.

That’s how I got my school involved. Then I told my Mom that I wanted more schools and people to wear purple and that I wanted Purple Day to go around the world.

I'm excited for this week,

I'm excited for this week, and was thinking of Cassidy as I was out shooting signs of spring today and came across some purple crocus.
