"FREAKIN' DELICIOUS"

Alton Johnson is the founder of Bossa Nova, The Superfruit Company. Prior to founding Bossa Nova, Johnson was a global brand manager at Harman International and led international business development for Nakamichi Corporation, a consumer products brand.

My previous job as a global brand manager put me square in the face of a typical "Type A" lifestyle. But stints in France and Brazil taught me that if we're not enjoying ourselves along the way, we're missing the point. Every activity, every meal, every sip has the potential to transform. That comes down to the nutrients you're taking in but also the experience you have with them. Simply put, my travels have taught me that our diets can be filled with foods and drinks that are, as one person described Bossa Nova, "FREAKIN' DELICIOUS."

Whether you're trying to lose weight, get your children off to a healthy start, maintain a balanced lifestyle or push your athletic boundaries a little further, it's natural to want every choice to support your chosen direction. If you're looking for ways to optimize nutrition per calorie, superfruits are a game changer. When I first encountered açai in 1999, it opened my eyes to the fact that not all fruits are created equal. I realized that if you start with great fruit - and do it right - you could create great juice that's good for kids and adults.

"Doing it right" has led us to a few principles. We never use filler juices or refined sugars. We sweeten with agave, a low Glycemic Index sweetener, at a level most people find light. We do everything we can to make sure that the nutrition in the berry ends up in the bottle, meaning that there's great nutritional value in every calorie you sip (and every dollar you spend). And by keeping out the unneeded calories out of our pure juices, you're free to blend them with sparkling water, for example, to make healthy hydration "on-the-go" for kinds (and adults too).

Enjoyment is an ingredient in a whole life. The things we enjoy are the things we will find a way to integrate on an ongoing basis. For some people health is holistic and complex, but I always start here: Choose more of what's good, less of what's not so good. As for juice, Bossa Nova has you covered.
