Under the Nile Veggies and Crate

When a product has a great concept, safe ingredients and a touching story behind it, it’s definitely going to end up on Parents’ Picks!

I discovered Under the Nile products while Alan and I were prepping for a spot on a national TV show. He needed to show a teething toy, and we didn’t have one at the DrGreene.com offices. So he headed to the airport and left me at the computer, searching for something I could get to his interview first thing the next morning.

I ended up tracking down the owner of Under the Nile, and she was able to charm the shipping gods into getting the package there in time for the taping. In the meantime, I discovered the story behind her products.

Under the Nile products are all organic, developed by a mom who noticed that her kids’ skin was sensitive to certain cotton products. Each part of their adorable toys – the basket, the veggies, the fruits – is made by women in a different village in Egypt. There’s one little village that just makes green beans. Under the Nile sets the villages up to be self-supporting micro-businesses for women in the villages.

Try the Veggies and Crate or Organic Fruit Basket, or if you just need one teether, go for the green bean (my favorite).

Under the Nile Veggies and Crate is available at Amazon.com
