This is one of my all-time family favorites! It’s a touch of canasta, rummy and poker; part strategy, part observation, part luck. I love that people always have fun playing – win or lose.

Sequence fits any size group, from 2 people to a whole roomful if you play with teams. One year we gathered the entire family – grandparents down to 7-year-olds – and had a great time. There's just enough luck involved that you can't feel too bad if you don't have the perfect card (or even if you have it and don't play it at the right time) and just enough strategy that you can use some higher thinking skills. It’s kind of tough to play with kids under the age of 7, and the plastic playing pieces should be kept away from little ones under 3.
