...how in the world a banks security can be so easily breached?
We received a phone call from our banks main branch that said, the security system had been breached and that we needed to come into the bank to change out our debit card pin's. That our accounts have been frozen for any transactions other than deposits.
I don't know many details as we have not yet gone to the bank. We will be doing that as soon as hubby gets home, but let me tell you I am ticked!

Great Look HDC!
Hair, makeup, clothes, shoes -- no wonder the interview went so well!
So we are back from the bank,
So we are back from the bank, and thank goodness our accounts are all ok. Not the same story for some other poor people we have found out from the bank lady.
Several people had money taken out of their accounts.
Apparently some of the stores in town had their debit machines messed with. Someone did something to the swipe area, and pin pad -- so that they could record and steal information and get into people's accounts. We only used our card once this past weekend, at one store so we know where our card was comprimised. A grocery store, where the debit machine is in full view of the store clerk. How they did not notice someone tampering with the machine is beyond me -- but these crooks are pretty cleaver I guess when it comes to stuff like that.
This won't be a problem for us though in the future, as we have decided to go back to the old fashioned method of Cash!
But do be aware out there guys when using your cards, check the machines and if anything seems off speak up.
We were very lucky!

Crazy
Hi Trudds,
We had an incident earlier this year when we had the bank send us new cards because of some security breech. It really is amazing how easily some people can figure out how to get into other peoples "personal" information. I am glad that everything worked out for you guys and nothing was taken from you.

They need a job...
I keep thinking "Why don't these people get a job" --- yet I know this is their job - figuring out how to get in and steal from others. One of the most frustrating parts is that the chances of them getting caught is small --- but one day they will get their own!
The lady at the back was telling us how they drained one bank account and left only 93 cents. How another account they only got 100.00 out because that person had a limit on his account. Both cases suck. It is more than the money that these people stole. And that is something that these people will never get back.

It's a shame
You know it really is a shame that someone that is obviously smart enough have a good paying job would chose to be a thief. I just think, why is it that someone that is intelligent enough to break into computer systems doesn't put the same amount of concentration and effort into working, they must be capable of putting that skill to good.
We had an incident before the bank changed our cards where someone ordered Adult content off my card over the internet, I may not have noticed the money missing (it wasn't that much) as easily if what they had bought wasn't something out of the ordinary. Now we are on top off our account, I check everything on a regular basis just so nothing like that happens unnoticed!

The crazy...
part about this is that what these ones did was go into a grocery store, distract the cleark, and put some sort of thing in the swipe area of the machine, and replaced the pad where you put in your numbers... this then sends your number to a computer somewhere, they make up some fake cards and start cashing in.
Just out of curiousity I went back into this same grocery store today, and there was nothing. No note saying we are sorry this happened to our customers, the debit machines were still sitting up on the counter with the clerks paying no attention. It is like it never happened, or they don't want anyone else to know it happened in their store. I know it was in that store for sure because it is the only store we went to on the weekend.
We won't be back in that store again!
YOu are right though, these people could do well in the 'real' world without taking from people. Frustrating to say the least.
