Eating Earthworms

4
Very interesting article. We had a student who ate some earthworms in class as some sort of statement. The university got very excited about it. The reason why is that there was a notorious case about 20 years ago when an Agriculture student(who else?) ate a mass of Cane Toad (Bufo marinaus) eggs in a toad dissection class in Biology I at Sydney University. He very nearly died. The only reason why he lived was that RPA hospital was next door. We knew about the nematode problem and told the earthworm eater to see a doctor about getting wormed. I have also heard that earthworms can act as intermediate hosts for Dog and Pig/Human tapeworms. Is that correct? Dr Ray Ritchie rrit3143@usyd.edu.au
