Since I started Purple Day I know that I am not really alone. I found out that if I had a big house and invited 1000 people over, 100 people would have epilepsy. If I invited 100 people over at least one person would have epilepsy.

When you see someone having a seizure and it lasts longer than 5 minutes call an ambulance, but NEVER put something in their mouth or pin them down, just move any sharp objects out of the way and stay with them to make sure they are alright and never run away unless it is to get help. When the seizure is over ask them if they are alright, if they know what happened and help them inside to go rest.

Epilepsy can be scary when you first find out you have it but it is ok because once you learn about it and get use to it, it is not as scary.

When you see a seizure it can be scary because you are worried about them, but they are ok. If you learn about Epilepsy and what to do it won’t be scary anymore. That is what I hope Purple day will help with too.

I have epilepsy and founded Purple day but I do other things to. I like to paint and play with my friends. I like to watch movies and do jig saw puzzles. I also like to hang out with my family.

I am an actress and have been in commercials, background for movies and had the lead in a short film called Ugly Girl. Oh ya, when I was in New York we were in the background for a part of Gossip Girl. I am also a cheerleader and Girl Guide.

About Epilepsy, there are all different kinds of epilepsy and seizures (like convulsions which I don’t have). I have complex partial seizures. Sometimes when I have a seizure I get really sad or feel scared for no reason, just like that in a quick of a snap, than I get really tired.

Sometimes my seizures make me zone out. Sometimes when I go to school I have a seizure and I sometimes miss things and don’t quite know what is going on or what to do, but my teacher helps me.

While I was in New York I got to see a lot of things. Did you know that Toys R Us has a 60-foot Ferris wheel inside and a huge Barbie House and a 40-foot dinosaur? It was soo cool!!

I also saw the Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty and Time Square and a bunch of famous restaurants. I also met this wonderful manicurist named Jackie Saulsbery, she did mine and Jamie’s nails in Purple!

I want to say “Thank You” to the Anita Kaufmann Foundation and Debbie Joseph’s for flying me to New York. I had a lot of fun. I also want to thank everyone who came to the party. It was nice meeting everyone.

Other things I have done for Purple Day this year are, I made a PSA for the radio and a PSA for TV, you can see them on our website ( www.purpleday.org).

I was also on Breakfast television. I have done a lot of other interviews too and Moose FM in Ontario is doing a story on me.

A new friend Aaron, is also doing a mini documentary of me and Purple Day. You can see all kinds of things that are going on at our website.

This year Purple Day has gotten even bigger and on March 9th the Anita Kaufmann Foundation flew me to New York with my Mom and brother Chad for the USA launch of Purple Day. There was a huge party at Dylan’s candy Bar and me and my brother got a whole whack of candy! My mom didn’t get too much candy because she didn’t want to get an overload, sugar rush.

The party was on March 19th and a lot of people came and they took a lot of pictures of me and one of my new best friends, Jamie Paetz

At the party I got to meet Paul Shaffer and Dr. Greene, he was so lucky he won the Prada purse for his wife and it was PURPLE!!

Dr Greene is a great person and I want you to know that. I really liked your tomato speech Dr. Greene that was really cool!

I also met a lot of music people and authors.

Last year I emailed all of our government, I even called our Prime Minister’s office, but I didn’t get to talk to him. I called Paul Shaffer from the David Letterman Show and he wore a purple tie on the show for me.

I also wrote Robert Munsch and he even sent me an autographed book called Look at Me. It is one of my favorite books.

I did some radio interviews and TV news interviews. I got my Mom to help me start a Facebook group, now the group has people from all over the world and there are over 6,500 members.

The epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia helped me a lot and The Canadian Epilepsy Alliance joined Purple Day too. Then the Anita Kaufmann Foundation found out about Purple Day and supported me.
