Is an ABR test necessary or is my 5 year old son truly stuttering? My 5 year old son started speech therapy about 4 months ago. There are a LOT of letters/words he doesn't pronounce correctly and he replaces sounds (like favoring 't'). He responds well during the sessions but reverts to disfluency in regular conversations (and he's now aware of it). He also stutters with eye rolling, but only when he's tired and typically excited. I wasn't surpised when his teachers tell me they never noticed it (he's usually VERY quiet in class). But, his P.E./playtime instructors have observed the stuttering. My family says he'll "grow out of it"...but, I'm concerned. Hearing tests were normal. He'll be six in January and is struggling with phonics. Please help with any advice on what to do next. How can I tell if this is true stuttering without subjecting him to evasive testing?
