I recently started my exclusively breastfed 4month old to solids yesterday and now today, she hasn't had a bowel movement. Should I be concerned and stop the solids??
Remember that your baby should still be getting the majority of his nutrients and calories from your breast milk. Introducing solids is just that, introducing. Make sure that his digestive track can handle all the new substance by starting slowly. Breast feed before each "eating session" and use solids as a supplement rather than the meal.
Also, if you've started on cereal that is iron fortified, it is likely that will slow down bowels.
Once your baby is about one month old, he may start having fewer bowel movements. If your baby is breastfed, he may go several days to a week without having a bowel movement. This is nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies rarely have problems with constipation. If he goes longer than a week, he seems to be in pain, or if you are concerned, call your pediatrician. hope this helps i found it on the internet...my son has had the same problem and i was worried but everything seems to be fine with it...
Now that your baby is starting solids, water is a good thing. Start with two ounces. Your baby will enjoy water for a lifetime if you start this now...Good luck to you...
