After reading Raising Baby Green I've become concerned about off gassing from insulation in our home.
I am currently pregnant and we are in the middle of remodeling our bedroom where the baby will sleep for the first few years. We plan to use a no VOC paint on the drywall when we are done, but I'm concerned about off gassing from the insulation. Ideally we would have insulated a more eco-friendly material, but given project constraints the best we could do was to purchase used polystyrene foam board. Using this material had the advantage of not supporting the production of new polystyrene foam board, and keeping this material out of land fills for at least a few more decades. But it doesn't solve the problem of off gassing. This is a particular concern because we ended up with factory overstock (slated for disposal) rather than used foam board that had been removed from a structure during demolition (which is what we were expecting). This means the board we are putting in our home is new and has not had years in a previous structure to do all it's off gassing.
So my question is, is there any type of barrier we could put between the foam board and the drywall that will prevent off gassing from this material from entering our home?
Thanks for the advice.
