Question asked by: micaelaSubmitted by Anonymous on August 13, 2011
I have 37 weeks pregnant and my baby is the size of the head like 40 weeks?
I may respond if it is normal and that this and if she had problems at birth?
Micaela -- First, congratulations on your upcoming delivery!
There are several reasons why a fetus's head might measure bigger than expected at 37 weeks. The dates or measurement might not be exactly correct; the head may be growing too fast; or the variation may be a baby with a larger than average, but normal, head.
The most important thing is to work closely with your healthcare provider -- both to monitor the baby and to consider what will work best for the timing and method of your delivery.
All other things being equal, a normal, spontaneous vaginal delivery is usually the healthiest for both mom and baby. But things -- including a large, rapidly growing head -- aren't always equal. That's why close monitoring is wise.
