My son is 2 and a half now. At a year and a half he was a normal, healthy little boy, very happy, even had a few words under his belt. Somewhere between 11/2 and 2 he lost all of it. He no longer showed interest in anyone else, in fact he preferred to be alone, he stopped talking, no mama, no dada, no nothing. He looked blank when I asked him anything, gave commands etc. He also wouldn't respond to his name. We had him evaluated through the state and was labeled as "Developmentally Delayed" and speech therapy and OT were recommended. We have taken hearing tests, we have done speech therapy, we are having tubes put it, nothing seems to be making any difference. My question is, at what point do we become more aggressive with his treatment? Could this be something physical that is causing this? Should we have him tested for Autism (he is on a ear waiting list)? I just want to see my son be able to function normally, be able to communicate with me and not be so frustrated. Any suggestions?

My nephew is autistic, and
My nephew is autistic, and your child sounds like he is doing some of the things he did. You should definitely get the test done. You need to let him do things at his own pace, for the most part. A child pushed into something they don't want to do will not do it. He will just get very aggitated and that will just make things worse. You just have to keep working on one thing at a time.
I would definitely go ahead
I would definitely go ahead with the Autism evaluation as he does have several red flags. If you have an Easter Seals in your city, seek out an eval there. We've had wonderful success with evaluation and treatment through ES.
As a person who works with
As a person who works with children with Autism I can say that your son is showing several "red flags" for Autism. I would keep him on the waiting list and see what happens. There is plenty of support out there if you just look for it. Make sure and keep yourself informed and seek out scientifically validated treatments. God bless!
