My now 7 year old had a bout of diarrhea when she was 5 and after she recovered, she didn't seem to have the same bowel habits. For instance, after she had a few days of diarrhea (with no fever, cramping or blood) she seemed to be unable to tolerate oatmeal...it would seem to make her stools loose. Prior to the bout of diarrhea, she ate oatmeal almost everyday and I don't remember her ever having a problem with it. She can no longer tolerate juice (mostly apple and grape) but a little orange juice seems to be ok. Also, if she has a lack of bread in her diet, that seems to also make her stools a bit loose. She has allergies to eggs and peanuts and did have an allergy to wheat, but outgrew it. She has had 'basic' blood work done, CBC, Sed. Rate, even the celiac tests and those all checked out fine. I have wondered about lactose or fructose intolerance but didn't know. The crazy thing is that when she has white flour products in her diet, she seems to have perfectly healthy stools. It's when there's a lack of it, that she seems to have trouble. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.
