6 week old spitting up / choking after every meal (breastfed)

My 6 week old spits up after almost every feeding. I keep him upright for 20 minutes after eating & am careful not to move him to much. Also, after the early morning feeding (630/7ish) he continuously gags and chokes when laid flat. Milk comes out of his nose and leaks out of his mouth. The only way this is resolved is to hold him against my chest. I've used the suction bulb to try and help, it works so-so. I don't know what else to do and it's horrible to hear your child choke. Please help. Thanks

My daughter was the same.

My daughter was the same. Immediately after her birth, she simply couldn't keep anything in. I had had a very long labour, over 50 hours and it turned out that she had swallowed a lot whilst inside me/being born. The hospital performed a stomach pump. After this she was fine. If this has een a problem since the birth of your baby then perhaps this could be the reason. My best wishes to you. Caroline

YES I WOULD MAKE AN

YES I WOULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET HIS THROAT CHECKED OUT TO MAKE SURE THINGS ARE WORKING RIGHT. ITS NORMAL FOR SPIT UP BUT NOT SO MUCH HE IS GAGGING..POOR LITTLE PEA. I WOULD TAKE HIM ASAP.. GOOD LUCK MAYBE ACID REFLUX TOO: GER is common in infants and has its own name -- spitting up. Reflux occurs during the first three months of age in more than half of all infants. Many babies don't require treatment. Referred to as "happy spitters," their symptoms usually disappear between 12 and 18 months of age. However, for a small number of babies, symptoms of reflux are severe, and medical evaluation and treatment is needed. Symptoms of Acid Reflux in Infants Common infant GER symptoms are: Frequent spitting up or vomiting Irritability when feeding Refusing food or eating only small amounts Sudden or constant crying Arching the back while feeding "Wet" burps Frequent hiccups Frequent coughing Poor sleep habits with frequent waking Bad breath A small number of infants will experience the following less common symptoms: Difficulty swallowing Frequent sore throat Weight loss or poor weight gain Respiratory problems (such as asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, wheezing) Frequent ear or sinus infections Excessive drooling Hoarse voice Spells of not breathing

Go to the doctor asap bc he

Go to the doctor asap bc he could be aspirating into his lungs and that could lead to pneumonia. If hes spitting up that much, he also needs meds to prevent ulcers. They waited to long to start my baby on those meds and now it burns when she eats. I hold her up 1 hr after she eats and I never lay her flat.....
