14 month old has had diarrhea for at least 6 months.

I've taken my son to the doctor numerous times and every time they say he's ok. He has had diarrhea for about 6 months and it happens a few times a day. The doctor said since he's not acting in pain, is eating well, and hasn't lost any weight that he is fine. I don't want to accept that answer because I don't know anyone who has chronic diarrhea. He gets bad diaper rash a few time a month. What can this be and what can I try doing to rule out maybe a food allergy?
