dr. raanan odom
Education and medicine have long been Dr. Odom’s two favored areas of academic interest. As an undergraduate at Stanford University, she became fascinated with the field of genetics and the molecular pathways that govern the complex metabolic machine that is the human body. Her enthusiasm for the subject led to several years of laboratory research studying the molecular pathogenesis of Marfan syndrome and muscular dystrophy. She also designed and taught a high school-level course in medical genetics.
The clinical application of genetics lies mainly in the field of pediatrics, so to further her studies, Dr. Odom enrolled in medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern, where she continued to couple her interests of education and medicine. She created and organized a week of preventive medicine lectures for medical students, plus extended her studies to include a master’s degree in genetics and development, studying early embryogenesis.
During her clinical clerkships, Dr. Odom began to appreciate the art and importance of patient education. This appreciation has grown during her pediatric residency training at the University of California, Irvine. Dr.Odom is now in her final year of residency and is looking forward to a career as a general pediatrician to help guide families through both typical and atypical child development. She is excited to join DrGreene.com as a means to further patient and physician education as well as her own!
