A public health advisory issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics now warns against giving children rotavirus vaccine because it might cause a rare condition called intussusception. Coupled with the recent scare about mercury in vaccines, this has frightened many parents. I have a different take. I am reassured that the AAP and the US Public Health Service are so vigilant and flexible - weighing all of the available evidence to give us cutting edge recommendations to best protect the health of our children.
