Parents Learn About Antibiotics

Teaching parents (and physicians) about the consequences of the overuse of antibiotics is making a difference. In a study published in the July 2001 issue of Pediatrics, researchers found that among children whose parents had attended a class about antibiotic overuse, antibiotic use fell by 19% over 2 years. And even among those who did not attend any special class, antibiotic use fell by 12%. There are still tens of millions of unnecessary (and therefore harmful) antibiotic prescriptions written each year - most of them for children. But getting the word out is proven to make a difference! [here is an article that you can print and bring with you to the doctor] to help ensure that your children only get the antibiotics they need.
