As Seen on the Net

DrGreene.com Sightings

We've been tracking "DrGreene.com sightings" around the net and there are a couple every day. Mostly in blogs and news sites and we thought we would share them with you.

Have you seen a cool mention of DrGreene.com on online? Or maybe you’ve seen Dr. Greene on TV, or heard him interviewed on the radio, or you’ve seen him in person in your local area. We want to hear all about it! Please include links, photos, clips – you name it. And if you mention “anything DrGreene” on your Blog, in your YouTube library, on your home answering machine (you get the picture!), let us know so we can link to you!

Sightings -- Laila Ali

How exciting! Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Laila, listed Raising Baby Green as one of the essential elements of her new green nursery.

On her blog, Laila notes, “I am trying to stick to products that are earth friendly and free of chemicals that can be harmful to children. You know, I am trying to follow the advice I have learned in books such as Raising Baby Green. It is not always easy so I am taking it slow.”

Laila brought women’s boxing into the spotlight. It’s impossible to list all of her activities and accolades here, but she’s a co-host of NBC’s “American Gladiators” and recently worked the dance floor on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Laila, the DrGreene.com community looks forward to welcoming Baby Curtis Mohammad this September (or any day now!). Happy Greene Pregnancy from all of us!

Sightings -- Bee Stings & Serum Sickness
Zubby, the photos of your ankle swelling over time is very impressive. I hope by now your ankle is back to normal size or you've gone to see a doctor. We agree that it's great to get info from trusted Internet resources and we're glad you turned to DrGreene.com to learn about bee stings and serum sickness.

Sightings -- Helping Baby Sleep on His Back

Nicole, your website gives lots of great advice about helping babies and their parents fall asleep. Your article on teaching babies to sleep on their backs reminded me of Dr. Greene’s reminder to help other caregivers understand how important this is. Caregivers such as home daycare workers and grandparents have a wealth of experience with children, but they may have been raised with the notion that belly sleeping is best for baby. Don’t forget to communicate the things that are important to you, such as no cereal in the baby bottle or the rules for naptime.

Sightings -- Dr. Greene in USA Today

When USA Today asked experts how parents can avoid “toxic toys,” Dr. Greene chimed in about plastic teething rings. “If parents are worried about plastic teething rings, they can fall back on the old standards of letting babies suck on cold, wet cloths or fabric teethers, says pediatrician Alan Greene, author of Raising Baby Green.” Parents looking for tips to treat teething pain can also visit this list from DrGreene.com.

Sightings -- The Most Important Question Is Always "Why"
Mark, you are right about the value of looking for the why. Kids, especially preschoolers, have a much easier time asking the why question than most adults. Sometimes we get tired of hearing it (over and over and over), but it's a sign of a curious mind. Of note, sleep is NOT overrated. font>
Sightings -- I'm not a fussy baby ... at least not intentionally!
Kristy -- All babies get fussy sometimes. It's great that your mom and dad quickly saw the change in you and took steps to clear-up and prevent your thrush from coming back. All of us here at DrGreene.com agree that your photos are adorable. Thanks for sharing those with us.
Sightings -- Ten Little Fingers & Ten Little Toes
Ro Anshi, we often hear parents say that they just want a healthy baby with 10 fingers and 10 toes., but Polydactylism, or having one or more extra fingers or toes, is probably the most common abnormality of development found at birth. Polydactylism is reported in about 2 per 1000 children, so you really are not alone! Of course most kids never even know that they had extra fingers or toes because it's typically corrected shortly after birth.
Dr. Greene on Glam.com!
Thanks Jill for your great Q&A with Dr. Greene. We think your description of him is right on -- "Pediatrician Dr. Alan Greene, a leading authority and spokesman for the "green baby movement," didn't change his last name to underscore his passion for environmentally sound parenting—he was just born that way. Destined to live up to his name, he is dedicated and determined to educate all eco-conscious parents who are wondering how we can save our planet and our children's future."
Turn Down the Heat
Great story on CNN.com about making your home healthier -- Don't preheat an empty pan, and keep burners on medium while cooking. "It's when nonstick pans get too hot that they emit potentially dangerous fumes," says pediatrician Alan Greene, M.D., author of "Raising Baby Green."
Looking to DrGreene.com for help with HSP
Sally, so glad you found Dr. Greene's article on Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP), but very sorry you needed to be looking for it. Sure hope your family weathers this crisis and get back into the pink of health very soon!
Two Much Emotion
Ashley, you've discovered something powerful that many parents never grasp -- "Mom's are constantly feeling like we are supposed to have everything together and often feel a sense of failure when our kids act ugly. We're so hard on ourselves! Truth be told...I am glad she has personality. I wouldn't want her to be a robot by any means, but that doesn't mean I have to like the process."  I'm so glad our article helped you.

More on Potty Training
Tricia it sounds like "Mr. Independent" is right on track with potty training. And it sounds like you're doing a great job helping him learn to channel his independence in a constructive way. Many parents have found DrGreene.com a great resource for potty training information. For example Matthew's mom tells of her difficult journey to potty train Matthew, and how Dr. Greene helped her and Matthew throughout the journey.

My Child the Thumb Sucker
Nikki, we're glad you found comfort in reading what Dr. Greene has to say about thumb sucking. Many parents feel comfortable with their child being labeled a "thumb sucker", but what could be more natural than young babies learning to sooth themselves with the first thing at hand (pun intended) that fit into their mouths and is shaped somewhat like a nipple? And as an extra bonus, it doesn't fall to the floor every few minutes requiring mom to pick it up and wash it off while baby cries.

Natural Children's Remedies For The Dreaded Diaper Rash
Caryn, thanks for the "hat tip" in your column on PeekabooPicks. Many moms don't know that adding yogurt to your diet while nursing can prevent the growth of yeast in their baby. And it's great for mom, too!

Count Your Blessings
Cassie, we're sorry to hear Nina has been sick, but glad to hear her kidney reflux resolved ... mostly. Counting your blessings (whether sick or healthy) is always good for the heart.

My Terrible Two's Angel
We agree that some times, the age from 1.5 to 3 years old can be trying for mom and dad. But don't give up! As Dr. Greene says, it is a "beautiful - but difficult - time with a truly worthwhile result".

Eating at Home Saves Money!
It’s great to see media using DrGreene.com as a resource. WHIO TV cited DrGreene.com in a recent article on family spending and food trends. They say people are eating at home more to save money and used a quote from Dr. Greene to elaborate on why that’s a good thing. You can read our article on family mealtime for more reasons to eat at home with your family.

Dr. Greene Quoted on the New York Times!
We were thrilled when Tara Parker Pope of the New York Times contacted Dr. Greene to discuss the serious pediatric issue now in the news - "8-Year-Olds on Statins? A New Plan Quickly Bites Back". Read the full New York Times article or Dr. Greene's take on the issue at DrGreene.com.

The Medical Web at it's Best!
Thank you Lyn for the glowing review of DrGreene.com on your Blog, Women's News Links. Although our site, isn't just for women, we know moms have a big job and need all the help they can get. Our goal is to make their jobs easier, their kids' lives better, and everyone in the family healthier. Guess that is the medical web at it's best.
Lavishly Green
Caryn Baily's post on peekaboopicks, "Lavishly Green" (love the name Caryn!) turned to DrGreene.com for great recommendations on natural remedies to replace over-the-counter pediatric cough and cold medicines. This post is the first of her new series "Natural Children's Remedies".
It's hay fever time, at least in Kentucky!
Dr.Greene.com is used by a resource for media outlets large and small. This time Amber Dilley of the Glasgow Daily Times quoted Dr. Alan Greene (based on an article on DrGreene.com) on the topic of allergies vs. colds. This is especially fun for us because Dr. Greene's relatives are from Ashland, Kentucky. Dr. Greene says, "Aunt Dorothy, I hope you aren't suffering from hay fever!"
  Recruiting Your Diabetes Management Team
Tina Radcliffe, we totally agree with you -- "
Being in control of your health is essential to success." Thanks for the referal to DrGreene.com for information about how to interview a potential physician to join your team. We're all about teamwork!
